Though a final decision will make in a month, it is known that even the Indian cricket board is concerned about hosting the 16-team tournament in October-November after the current IPL was suspended due to several COVID-19 cases within the bio-bubble.

IPL Suspended due to COVID-19 Cases

According to PTI, BCCI officials have recently met with some of the key decision-makers in the central government, and a move to the UAE has been more or less decided upon. The dates for the flagship competition, scheduled to occur at nine different locations, are yet to determine.

“The suspension of the IPL within four weeks is an indication that it’s not very safe to host a global event of that scale at a period when the country is dealing with its worst health problem in the last 70 years,” a senior BCCI source familiar with the situation said on condition of anonymity.

“In November, there is a possibility that a third wave could reach Indian shores. So, although the BCCI will continue to host the tournament, it is likely that it will be moving to the UAE, “He continued.

Health analysts also cautioned of a third wave in India in September, which Maharashtra health minister Rajesh Tope concurs with.

T20 World Cup -Update

The desperate condition in India, where a regular addition of over 3 lakh new cases has persisted for several days, has rattled most of the member boards. The ICC is unlikely to endanger international cricket teams’ welfare.

“You may be confident that most of the top nations would not choose to visit India in the next six months unless the condition improves. If they are in the midst of another boom, the players and their families will be very hesitant to move.

“So expect BCCI to consent to transfer the tournament to UAE,” another source said.

He said that the suspension of the IPL after a series of promising cases had left officials wary of taking any more risks.

“The IPL in India served as a forum to demonstrate to the world and participant countries that it is safe to hold a tournament even when the second wave is at its height.

T20 World Cup Reallocated to UAE

“It was going well before the bio bubble began to leak. What’s to say that won’t happen again in October or November? Travel advisories are almost certainly in effect in countries such as Australia, England, and New Zealand, “He contended.

One of the main factors for holding the tournament in the UAE is. There are a limited three venues – Sharjah, Dubai, and Abu Dhabi – with no air transport.
