In India, international cricket is about to resume after a busy and long IPL season. A new look Indian team, led by Rishabh Pant, will take on the Proteas, led by Temba Bavuma.
The Men in Blue have decided to rest key players like Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah, and Mohammed Shami for this series. KL Rahul and Kuldeep Yadav have been ruled out of the series due to injuries.
However, these matches will be just as thrilling as players from both sides will be looking to prepare for the upcoming T20 World Cup and a good performance in these games could help them reserve a place in the World Cup squad.
The Indian team management also wants to test its bench strength and a number of players were selected based on their performance in the recently concluded IPL. This series will also mark the comeback of two great players of the game – Dinesh Karthik and Hardik Pandya.
They both played some outstanding innings in the IPL, which will be crucial when India travels to Australia for the World Cup. Hardik will also be promoted to vice-captain to support Pant.
In contrast, the Proteas sent a full-strength team and quite a few South African players had a decent outing. Kagiso Rabada, Quintin DeKock, Anrich Nortje, Aiden Markram, Marco Jansen, Dwaine Pretorius, and Rassie Van der Dussen all played brilliantly for their franchises, but David Miller’s performance stood out.
The South African management hopes these players will carry their IPL form into this T20I series against India and later on against Australia.
