IPL 2021: Why Ravindra Jadeja is so Important to CSK and World Cricket?

Well, as the title suggests, we are going to discuss Ravindra Jadeja.

Begging you pardon, SIR Ravindra Jadeja. The man who bled cricket. Being a cricket fan, you will also agree with us that Jadeja is the kind of player who can seal his spot in the team only based on fielding. Now, imagine him taking wicket and scoring runs with fielding skills.

Well, Let’s start with his year-wise record.

Batting and Fielding

Ravindra Jadeja: Batting and Fielding

Ravindra Jadeja, CSK’s third retained player ahead of the IPL 2018 Player Auction, has been MS Dhoni’s go-to-man when he decided to sever a relationship, and the left-arm has produced on several occasions. His involvement gives Dhoni the option of playing an extra batsman if necessary.

Jadeja has been a mystery since his debut in international cricket. In 2008, he was a member of the triumphant Indian U-19 cricket team that won the World Cup in Malaysia.

His success in the IPL 2008 helped the Rajasthan Royals win the trophy, earning him the nickname “Rockstar” from his captain, Shane Warne. Chennai Super Kings purchased Jadeja for approximately Rs. 9.8 crore in the 2012 IPL player sale, rendering him the most valuable player of the year’s auction. Jadeja played with the Gujarat Lions for two seasons before joining CSK for the league’s eleventh season.

Look at those stats – He never had a season less than a strike rate of 100. Just brilliant with the bat. There are few seasons where he got fewer chances down the order, but he made an impact as always.

Not to forget, just in the last encounter against RCB in IPL 2021, he smashed 37 runs in a single over against Harshal Patel, who is currently a purple cap holder.

Jadeja tied Chris Gayle’s record of 37 runs in an over against Parameswaran for RCB against Kochi Tuskers Kerala back in 2011.

Jadeja, who was unbeaten on 62 off 28 deliveries, started the final over with four consecutive sixes off Patel before adding another fifth delivery. He snatched the final ball over square leg for a four-point match. Harshal Patel ended with 4-0-51-3 after having figures of 3 for 14 heading into the final over. Jadeja, batting at No.5, had yet to open his account when he was caught off Washington Sundar by Dan Christian.

Now, Let’s checkout his bowling performance.

His brilliance in Feilding

On the track, Jadeja is recognized for his agility and quickness. The 32-year-old had a busy day on the field against the Rajasthan Royals, as the ball pursued him all over the ground during the RR’s batting innings. By the end of the match, the spinner had taken four catches.

Jadeja dismissed Manan Vohra, Riya Parag, Chris Morris, and Jaydev Unadkat thanks to his brilliant fielding. During the contest, the Jamnagar native had some fun attempting to do some fake fielding to add suspense.

It happened in the 15th over of the second innings. On Moeen Ali’s first delivery of the over, on-strike batsman Riyan Parag tossed up the delivery but mistimed the attempt, and the ball went straight to the fielder at deep midwicket. Jadeja, who was standing nearby, quickly caught the ball.

However, after safely gripping the pitch, the all-rounder pretended to drop the ball beyond the boundary rope for a bit of fun. The funny event was captured on tape and soon went viral on social media, leaving several cricket fans in stitches.
